Ibarra Juarez, 32, who has no fixed address, has been charged for his alleged role in the 2021 Christmas Eve murder of 33-year-old Trappe resident Marta Merina.
Shortly after 6:15 a.m. on Dec. 24, 2021, police were called to investigate a reported shooting in the 2900 block of Howell Point Road in Trappe, where they found Merina outside of her home suffering from a fatal gunshot wound.
During the investigation, Juarez was identified as the suspect, and a warrant was issued for his arrest, though he wasn't located until he was arrested for an unrelated crime in Mexico on March 24, 2022.
Officials say that the Department of Justice’s Office of International Affairs worked with Mexican prosecutors to request his provisional arrest in April 2022. Extradition was granted in October 2022, but deferred pending the completion of Juarez's sentence in Mexico.
Juarez was back in Maryland on Tuesday, Oct. 22, where he was charged with first- and second-degree murder, as well as other related offenses. He's being held at the Talbot County Detention Center without bond.
